Poland ILCA 6 Youth worlds update.

Dziwnow, Poland is playing host to the ILCA 6 Youth worlds (Boys & Girls) in the coming days. Australia is well represented with 12 youth sailors travelling from around Australia to compete against the best 360 Youth ILCA sailors in the world.

Dziwnow Poland is approx. 1.5 hrs travel time east of Germany, the town lies on Polish coast, with the championship being held on the Baltic Sea. Marina Dziwnow lies inland of the Baltic with sailors launching and sailing to the course area via a canal.

The team had a fantastic preparation, most receiving charter boats on the 28/06. We have been out training the last four days, experiencing a variety of conditions that the Baltic has to offer. These four days have proved valuable, with the team experiencing four different wind types /directions throughout the period.

It was great to see the team take such a measured & professional approach to the event. The group has gelled quickly in such a short time.

The Australian team consists of sailors from:

4 x Victoria, 3 x Queensland. 3 x WA, 1 x NSW & 1 x Tasmania.

The team is being coached & supported by Rhett Go-wans (Vic) & Annie Eastgate (QLD).

The sailors completed measurement & registration today & have a well-earned rest day tomorrow.

The practice race is on 03/07, with race day 1 scheduled for 04/07.

Big thanks to everyone involved for enabling the team to travel & compete. Leigh Cummins (Davies Bay YC), the team manager who has ensured everything has run smoothly. We also appreciate the support of the sailors’ families & ALCA Youth rep Don Elks as well as Australian Sailing.

A further regatta update will be provided on 06/07.

Rhett Gowans, Team Coach.
