Coaching & Tips

The Victorian Laser Association provides several avenues for Laser sailors to receive coaching and support to increase their knowledge. The VLA provides opportunity and training for literally everyone. Activate Days at your home club are run to get your fleet moving, providing tips on rigging, boats, tuning and on-water training.

PROGRAM FEATURES:

  • Join a community of Laser sailors - junior, youth, open, master; female and male – helping each other, pushing off the beach together to have a whole lot of fun.

  • A structured and sequential training program designed to help you peak for your premier events.

  • Program lead coach: Rhett Gowans manages the program, creating a fun and supportive environment for socialising, learning and developing.

  • Rhett has the support of Awesome Laser Class coaches like Kyrstal Weir, Brody Riley, Jack Lewis and others; coaches with the experience and skills to help you accelerate your development, including: boat speed, racing skills, mind skills, boat handling.

  • Proven ability to help Open and Masters sailors to learn new tricks and break bad habits, to jump up the results table, and win at State, National and International level.

  • Private online collaboration groups with knowledge sharing and video from training events


2023 Victorian Laser Association (VLA) Coaching Program

 

ILCAVIC training program for 2023 consists of the following:

10 x Green Point Sessions - 24th Jan - 28th Mar.

SSCBC Youth Champs Regatta (Youth Only Coaching) - 22nd-23rd April

Indented Head Training Clinic - 29th - 30th April

Sail Bellarine which includes the Masters States (Masters Only Coaching) - 6th - 7th May

SSCBC Mid Winters - 10th-11th June

July Clinic (location TBA) - 15th-16th July

6 x Winter Training Sessions - 6th, 13th, 27th August/ 3rd, 10th, 17th September

Weekend Clinic - Location TBA - 23rd - 24th September

Royal Geelong YC Clinic, 14th-15th October

10 x Green Point Sessions - 10th October - 19th December

Lake Eppalock Regatta - 4-5th November

Lake Eppalock Clinic - 6-7th November

Somers/Flinders Camp - 16th-17th December

 

The total number of coaching days included in the program is 35 days.

At this stage the program does not include Sail Melbourne, Sail Sandy or the potential to increase the Spring/Summer Green Point sessions in 2023 to two days per week in the lead up to the Nationals and the Masters Worlds.

We are offering five payment options:

1)     Pay as you go. The total cost if you attended all the events is $2910

2)     January until the end of June including Green Point 1st Subscription $1240

3)     January until the end of June without Green Point $790

4)     July until the end of December including Green Point 2nd Subscription $1240

5)     July until the end of December without Green Point 2nd Subscription $790
