Welcome to the Victorian ILCA (Laser) Association (VLA) and the world’s most popular adult, youth and family dinghy sailing class.

The ILCA (nee-Laser) is a single-handed racing dinghy, sailed by Olympians but also sailed every weekend across the world where sailors young and old just want to “fang about". Each dinghy is virtually identical whether they are brand new or 10 years old, making it the sailor that wins the race, not the boat. The ILCA Laser is a challenging boat that rewards athleticism, fitness, subtle steering and trimming techniques, as well as tactical excellence. It is a singlehanded Olympic class boat for both men and women and is sailed at the local yacht club, national and international levels. With over 220,000 boats in 140 countries, it is the world’s most popular adult, youth and family racing sailboat.

2023 ICLA4 Youth World Championships

We are all very proud to see our 2023 Team perform and particularly to see those performances, a young team, everyone got to the top of their respective fleets in light conditions including hot temperature and bushfires. AusILCA sees ILCA4 Worlds the start of a journey of development through Youths & U21's, we look forward to seeing you next at nationals in Adelaide. Special thanks to Rohan and to parents for supporting the team. AusILCA trusts that you can now relax and enjoy whatever Greece has in store.

VLA Laser ILCA4 4.7 Transition and Coaching Program

As part of the VLA’s commitment to fostering people transitioning to the class, Andrew Crawshaw interviewed Joby Graves to discuss a fantastic initiative to be launched at the Laser Victorian Championships on 28 February 2021. Joby describes the acquisition by the VLA of 5 new Laser 4.7's for use by junior sailors transitioning from Opti's, Cadets, Minnows, Bics etc. The 4.7's are also available to Masters females who want to keep sailing Lasers but find the Radial difficult overall to handle. Also discussed is the new coaching hub being launched at SYC for the VLA. Have a listen!! It's a great interview!!

VLA 4.7 Solidarity Program

The VLA has designed and implemented a specific program to help transition young sailors from junior classes to the Laser 4.7. Called the VLA 4.7 Solidarity Program, a specific page on the website is dedicated to providing information to both parents and sailors. Click here to check it out!
