The VLA is planning to conduct the regattas while observing the objects of the World Sailing Environmental Practice.
The World Sailing Environmental objectives are:
Develop and implement a sustainability program for the sport and events;
Increase and develop awareness of sustainability issues amongst all sailing stakeholders;
Support the development of Olympic Games and World Sailing event venues that are sustainable for the environment, economy and community;
Position sailing as environmentally aware.
Ratified at World Sailing’s 2018 Mid-Year meeting in London, World Sailing’s Sustainability Agenda 2030 outlines how the sport will contribute to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The Sustainability Agenda 2030 is split up into World Sailing’s six main operational areas with a total of 56 different targets. The targets range from participation to gender equality, water quality to single use plastic.
The VLA plans to incorporate where practical the World Sailing 2030 Sustainability agenda.
The VLA will utilise the event guidance document to help plan and run the 2020 Summer regattas.
